Maria Giannakaki presents her new art work in her first solo exhibition in Cyprus at Nicosia’s Alpha C.K. Art Gallery.
Maria Giannakaki studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Athens under Panayiotis Tetsis. She continued her studies in China where she learned the techniques of calligraphy and painting with traditional Chinese materials.
In her work she fuses together eastern painting techniques western expressionistic and impressionist influences. Her subject-matter is anthropocentric and expressive of her personal experiences and feelings. The persons she depicts are not recognizable. Their purpose is to express the mood and feeling of a moment, a second in time. They are delicately depicted through light, airy brushstrokes, without concern to detail but to form a composition that brings together people and nature.
The exhibition opens Thursday, September 25 and continues through 11 October 2014.
